As the days stretch longer and the edges of summer start to show, June brings us the Full Strawberry Moon, one of those full moons that just feels a bit extra magical.
If you’ve been following along for a while, you’ll know I always carve out a moment to check in with the full moon. There’s something grounding about pausing to notice it, especially when it rises so bright and whole over the sea, it feels both ancient and completely present.. This one’s particularly special if you’re on the east coast, the Strawberry Moon rises directly from the horizon around 10:37pm on the 11th, casting light across the water like a soft path forward.
Let’s explore the energy of this month’s moon…
Why is it called the Strawberry Moon? 🍓
This name comes from Indigenous North American traditions, where full moon names were often tied to natural cycles. In June, strawberries were ready to harvest sweet, ripe, and short-lived. The name reminds us of fleeting abundance, of savouring things while they’re here.
Other cultures called this the Mead Moon or the Rose Moon, also nodding to blooming, sweetness, and celebration. It's a moon of transition, between spring and summer, effort and ease, growth and harvest.
The energy of the Strawberry Moon
This full moon carries a sense of emotional ripening. It asks: What’s come full circle for you? What’s ready to be picked, savoured, or let go of?
June’s full moon can bring things to the surface, feelings, realisations, truths we’ve been circling. It’s a beautiful time to reflect on what’s working, and what’s quietly asking to be released. Not everything needs to be carried forward.
Themes of this moon:
-
Emotional clarity
-
Gentle release
-
Appreciation and presence
-
Tuning back into what feels right
What this moon reminds us
This moon reminds us not to rush. That just like strawberries, some things need time to ripen, and once they do, it’s okay to harvest and move on.
Maybe there’s a decision you’ve been circling, or a feeling that’s been growing quietly in the background. Maybe this is your moment to name it, honour it, and gently release what no longer fits. There’s no need for big declarations, clarity often arrives in whispers.
Strawberry Moon reflection prompts
-
What has quietly blossomed in me this year?
-
What am I ready to let go of with love?
-
Where do I feel emotionally clear, and where do I feel foggy?
-
What simple joys have I been overlooking?
A Full Moon Ritual to Try
Watch the moonrise if you can, especially over water if you’re coastal like me. Take a blanket, a flask, maybe a friend. Let the light and stillness create space to notice what’s been sitting inside you.
Other gentle rituals:
-
Write a “release list” and safely burn or bury it
-
Light a candle and sit with a question: What am I making room for?
-
Move your body, stretch, dance, or walk under the moonlight
-
Take a sea dip or bath as a way to clear out and begin again
Final thoughts
The Strawberry Moon invites softness. You don’t need to have it all figured out, you just need to notice what’s shifting.
Let this moon be your reminder that it’s okay to evolve slowly, to let go quietly, and to savour the sweetness that’s already here.
