As we head deeper into spring and nature really starts showing off, May brings us the Full Flower Moon, and it’s a beautiful one, full of meaning and a little bit of magic.
If you’ve followed me for a while, you’ll know I love the moon. There’s something so grounding about taking time to notice it, especially during a full moon, when it feels like it’s pulling everything to the surface. This particular full moon, known as the Flower Moon, is one of my favourites… not just for the name, but it's my birth month.
Why is it called the Flower Moon? 🌸
The name comes from Native American traditions, especially the Algonquin tribes, who named each full moon based on what was happening in the natural world at the time. And in May, it’s all about the blooms. The hedgerows are full, the gardens are bursting, the wildflowers start to appear on walks… it just feels alive.
This moon celebrates all that natural beauty, it’s a reminder of growth, blossoming, and abundance. Everything we’ve been quietly planting or working on, especially since winter, starts to really show itself around now.
When to See It (if you’re local to me in Cleethorpes)
The Full Flower Moon rises on Monday, 12th May 2025, and it’ll be at its fullest at 5:58pm BST.
If you’re near the coast like I am, the best time to see it is just after moonrise. I always recommend heading somewhere with a clear view of the eastern horizon, the beach is perfect for this. Watching it rise above the sea is honestly breathtaking, that soft glow, the reflections on the water, the peacefulness of it all. If you can, take a flask and a blanket and just be in it for a moment.
The energy this year, what makes this Flower Moon special
This full moon carries a gentle kind of energy, the kind that reminds us to pause and notice what’s quietly blooming. Just like wildflowers that grow without force, it’s a time to reflect on our own inner growth.
Think of it like compost, the things we’ve shed becoming nourishment for what’s next. What’s unfolding beneath the surface? What needs letting go?
Slow growth is still growth. And this moon is a beautiful reminder of that.
What the Flower Moon reminds us
Just like the name suggests, this moon is all about blooming, but not in a pressure-y way. It's a soft, natural unfolding. A chance to honour how far we’ve come, and where we’re headed.
It’s also a really beautiful time to reflect, especially outdoors. Take a walk. Sit with your journal. Watch the moonrise. Let the sky remind you of your own rhythm.
Prompts to reflect on under the Full Flower Moon:
Whether you journal or just ponder while you're out walking, here are some gentle prompts you might like to sit with:
-
What’s blooming in my life right now, even if it’s just a bud?
-
What am I ready to release to make space for something new?
-
Where can I soften or surrender a little more?
-
What part of me feels ready to grow?
A little ritual or moon moment
If you like to mark the full moon like I do, you could take a few moments to light a candle, stretch out on your mat, or head out into nature for a slow walk. Maybe even take a sea dip if you're feeling brave, I sometimes use this time for a little "cleanse", letting the water carry away whatever I’m ready to let go of.
One last thing...
The Flower Moon is such a gentle reminder to celebrate where we are, trust where we’re going, and keep growing, even if it’s quietly, or slowly. And if you’re someone who connects with lunar energy like I do, you might want to carry that energy with you, in a ritual, a reflection, or even a little symbolic piece of jewellery.
I’ve poured a lot of this intention into my Celestial Collection, especially the Full Moon Necklace, a design inspired by the moon’s texture and symbolism, crafted with reticulated recycled silver for that soft glow. It’s a little way of keeping the moon’s magic close.

Let me know how the Flower Moon feels for you, whether you see it rise or just sense its presence. I’ll probably be down on the beach with a cup of tea, watching it all unfold 🌕🌸
