There’s something about the connection between the moon and the sea that’s always fascinated me. The moon pulls the tides just as it seems to pull at something inside us, it’s steady, cyclical, and powerful in its own quiet way.
When I created the Selene & The Sea Necklace, I wanted to honour that relationship. It’s inspired by the Greek goddess Selene, who represents the moon, and by my own love for the sea. Together, they capture the calm, reflective energy that I think we’re all craving more of, that sense of slowing down and trusting life’s natural rhythm.
Who Was Selene, the Goddess of the Moon?
If you’ve ever wondered what was Selene the goddess of, she was the personification of the moon in Greek mythology, her light was said to move the tides and guide travellers through the night.
There’s something quietly empowering about that image, this feminine, guiding energy that doesn’t shout for attention but still influences everything around it. That’s the feeling I wanted this necklace to hold: calm, gentle strength.
The inverted crescent shape was inspired by depictions of Selene’s crown, and it became the heart of this design, a small symbol of the balance between softness and power.
How the Necklace Was Made
The first version of this piece started in wax. I carved the crescent by hand, shaping it to feel fluid and organic, and then cast it using the Delft clay method. Once I was happy with the form, I soldered the jump ring and bezel cup and set the stone, a Larimar chosen for its ocean like blue.
Larimar is a gemstone that feels peaceful even to look at. It’s known for its calming energy and gentle encouragement towards emotional clarity and truth, a stone that helps you pause, breathe, and communicate with ease.
Each Selene & The Sea Necklace is made in recycled sterling silver and polished to a smooth finish to reflect the glow of the moon. The result is something refined yet natural, jewellery that looks as effortless as it feels.
What the Selene & The Sea Symbolises
The moon and the sea both represent flow, intuition, and the ability to adapt. Together, they remind us that we don’t have to force everything, sometimes the best thing we can do is move with what’s already unfolding.
People are often drawn to this piece because of that energy. It’s worn as a reminder to trust your own pace, to let things settle naturally, and to stay connected to what feels true. There’s a quiet power in that kind of surrender, the kind that doesn’t need to be loud to be strong.
And if you’re someone who feels connected to the moon or drawn to water, it tends to resonate deeply. It’s more than just a necklace, it’s a touchstone for calm and connection.
How It Feels to Wear
The Selene & The Sea Necklace is one of those pieces that’s easy to wear every day. It feels grounding, soothing, and just a little bit special, something you reach for when you want to carry a sense of peace with you.
Customers have described it as “a reminder to slow down,” “a calming energy I wear to work,” and “a way to feel close to the sea, even when I’m miles away.”
For me, it’s also tied to my love of stargazing and coastal living, that simple joy of watching the moonrise over the sea and feeling small, connected, and at peace all at once.
Why I Made It
Living by the coast has shaped so much of how I create. I see the moon rise over the sea most nights, and it never feels ordinary. It’s always a moment of perspective, a reminder that everything moves in cycles and that we’re part of something bigger.
I made this piece to capture that, the steady pull of the moon, the calm rhythm of the sea, and the peace that comes from trusting your own flow.
