Moment No.002 - Gold Winter Crescent

Inspired by a crescent caught low in a winter sky.

Crescents don't stay long. They sit close to the horizon, visible only briefly before the sky or the landscape swallows them. This one appeared as a slither of gold against the indigo winter evening, and it was enough to stop what I was doing and go and find it.

What I keep coming back to with the moon is this: it is always the same moon. Constant, predictable, returning. And yet it is never quite the same sky around it, never quite the same colour, never quite the same quality of light. The crescent that evening was gold.

This piece is handcrafted in recycled 9ct gold, the gold of that particular sky, that particular evening. Cratered and rugged at its lower edge, smoother through its centre, softly textured above. Each surface reflecting something of the moon's own nature: never still, never quite finished.
